Incorporating Web 2.0 Tools into the Research Process: Making the Most of Instruction and Outreach Efforts

Please join us for the spring 2007 continuing education event being held in Los Angeles, California and Phoenix, Arizona.

This course is designed to encourage health information professionals to use Web 2.0 tools in teaching and outreach activities in their institution. The course assumes that participants have working knowledge of Web 2.0 tools, such as social bookmarking (e.g. Flickr, del.icio.us), blogs, wikis, etc. The instructors will provide examples and hands-on activities that demonstrate how these tools can be used to facilitate the research process, specifically, searching, collaborating, organizing and publishing.
- Andrea Lynch -- Andrea Lynch graduated from the masters program at the UCLA Graduate School of Library and Information Studies in June 2004. In her current position as Health and Life Sciences Librarian and Instruction Coordinator at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, she is responsible for research, instruction, and collection development in the areas of dentistry, public health, and nursing as well as coordinating instructional sessions. She serves as a member of the Medical Library Association and Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona (MLGSCA), the chair of the MLGSCA Electronic Information Resources Committee in addition to being the Webmaster for this group.
- Dominique Turnbow -- Dominique Turnbow received her MLIS from UCLA in 2002. Since then she has worked in hospital and academic library settings. Currently, she is the Undergraduate Services Librarian at the UCSD Biomedical Library. She is primarily responsible for providing outreach and instructional services to students in the Division of Biological Sciences. She has been using Web 2.0 tools for personal, professional, outreach, and instruction purposes. She is a current member and Continuing Education Co-Chair of the Medical Library Association and Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona (MLGSCA). Her research interests include information literacy and instructional design.

- Parking is available at University Center Garage (UC-1) between Taylor and Polk. 411 N. Central (Enter off Polk St .). Cost is $2.00 an hour; up to $8.00 maximum. Another parking location is the surface lot across the street from the garage entry. It is run by US Parking Lot Systems. It is a flat $4.00. You must have exact change. There is no attendant. You must stuff the four dollars in the slot that corresponds to the spot where you park.
