Description of program

This workshop is designed to update librarians' skills in searching PubMed/MEDLINE and the search engine, Google. The PubMed X section is an advanced class for experienced PubMed/MEDLINE searchers. This hands-on class will highlight new features and advanced PubMed techniques that can be used to conduct comprehensive searches. The Googling section will build upon users' current skills to apply advanced tips and techniques particularly in Google's Book Search and Scholar. Group discussion will provide a chance to share best practices and in-class exercises will allow participants to apply the newly learned techniques and tips.

Prerequisites
For PubMed X, participants will need to obtain a My NCBI account and view the Branching Out: The MeSH® Vocabulary video on the web.

1. View Branching Out: The MeSH® Vocabulary. This 12-minute video is an introduction to the development, structure and use of the MeSH® vocabulary. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/disted/video/index.html

2. If you don't already have a MyNCBI account, set up an account at http://PubMed.gov . Click on Register in the top right side of the page and fill in the boxes to obtain an account. This brief animated tutorial with audio will guide you.
