Johnson) to\u00a0outgoing MLGSCA President, Deborah Klein on 6\/29\/10) for updated MLGSCA AC Manual.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>5<strong>.\u00a0 General Blog Guidelines<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>a.<strong> Frequency:<\/strong> The blog should be updated with at least one new entry per week.<br \/>\nb.\u00a0<strong>Length:<\/strong> Blog entries will vary in length but will generally be 1-5 paragraphs in length.\u00a0 Articles longer than two paragraphs employ the \u201cMore\u201d page break feature in the WordPress blog software to keep multiple posts visible on the main page.<br \/>\nc.\u00a0<strong>Submission Format:<\/strong> Users who would like something published on the blog should submit their idea or content to the co-chairs via email.\u00a0 All Newsletter Committee members will be provided with a WordPress account for contribution.\u00a0 Newsletter Committee members can compose, edit and publish posts.<br \/>\nd.\u00a0<strong>Communication Style:<\/strong> \u201cBlogs differ from traditional static websites by encouraging comments and creating a forum for discussion on topics.\u201d (Task Force on Social Networking Software, Blog Guidelines:<a href=\"http:\/\/sns.mlanet.org\/blog\/blog_index.php\"> <strong>About Blogs.\u00a0 Available online <\/strong><\/a>. Articles will continue to be edited for content and tone as the MLGSCA blog is a professional communication vehicle of the association.<br \/>\ne.<strong> Citation style:<\/strong> Reference citations should follow the Journal of the Medical Library Association, except add periods after author&#8217;s initials.<br \/>\nf.\u00a0<strong>Blog layout:<\/strong> Use WordPress\u2019s default format to ensure consistency in fonts and font sizes.<br \/>\ng.\u00a0<strong>Hyperlinks<\/strong>: Hyperlinks are encouraged in blog posts. This decision was implemented to 1) encourage professional discourse, 2) lend to the authority of comments through attribution and 3) help combat spam by anonymous commenting.\u00a0 The spam filters should be installed through WordPress to prevent inappropriate commenting on the blog.<br \/>\ni.<strong> Categories:<\/strong> Each post will have at least one blog category assigned to it.\u00a0 The list of categories will include all committee names, MLA and other terms describing areas of frequent contributions.\u00a0 New categories can be added by request to the Newsletter Committee.<br \/>\nj.\u00a0<strong>Advertising:<\/strong> Committee members ensure that paid advertisements are always on the front page of the newsletter blog by editing and re-posting advertisement posts as needed.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0<strong>Publishing Guidelines<\/strong> (step-by-step guide to publishing blog entries)<\/p>\n<p>a.\u00a0Log in to WordPress.<br \/>\nb.\u00a0Click \u201cPosts ? Add New\u201d from the left hand menu.<br \/>\nc.\u00a0In the text box at the top of the page, type the title of your new post.<br \/>\nd.\u00a0If you are copying an entry from some outside source (an email, Microsoft Word document, etc.), do the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">i.\u00a0Copy the text.<br \/>\nii.\u00a0Paste the text into Window\u2019s Notepad or Macintosh\u2019s TextEdit or any other text editor that strips the text of formatting.\u00a0 Simply copying from Word or an email may attach unwanted\/unusual formatting and alter the appearance of the entry<br \/>\niii.\u00a0Copy the text from NotePad\/TextEdit\/other text editor.<br \/>\niv.\u00a0Paste into WordPress\u2019 New Post box.<\/p>\n<p>e.\u00a0If you are not copying an entry from an outside source (email, Microsoft Word document, etc.), simply enter your text into the body of the message.<br \/>\nf.\u00a0If you are comfortable writing HTML, feel free to use the \u201cHTML\u201d tab.\u00a0 If you are not comfortable writing HTML, use the \u201cVisual\u201d tab. The \u201cVisual\u201d tab allows you to create a post the same way you would create a Microsoft Word document.<br \/>\ng.\u00a0To add formatting to posts in the \u201cVisual\u201d tab, use the tool bar located above the entry box.\u00a0 This is where you can incorporate bold, italics, hyperlinks, etc.<br \/>\nh.\u00a0The beginning of each blog entry should list the author, if not on the Newsletter Committee, in this format: \u201cSubmitted by: Name, Title (optional), MLGSCA position (optional), Institution\u201d.<br \/>\ni.\u00a0The end of each blog entry should list the publication date in this format: \u201cPosted [12\/01\/10]\u201d.<br \/>\nj.\u00a0Using the \u201cCategories\u201d and \u201cPost Tags\u201d menus on the right hand side, select any Categories your post may fall under, and add any Tags associated with the topic.<br \/>\nk.\u00a0When finished adding\/formatting text and ready to publish, click \u201cSave Draft\u201d in the Publish box in the upper right hand corner.<br \/>\nl.\u00a0Click \u201cPreview\u201d to check for formatting errors.<br \/>\nm.\u00a0When the post is ready, click \u201cPublish\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Submitted by the Blog Committee\u00a0\u00a0(E.Brennan, Chair; K.
