Julie Kwan, Rick Burke and James Wiser<\/a> shared first year results from the e-licensing collaborative between the National Network of Libraries of Medicine-Pacific Southwest Region (NN\/LM-PSR) and the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Since 2008, this partnership has resulted in 8 vendor offers to 25 participating libraries, yielding a 73% discount from participating vendor list prices.\u00a0 Nature Publishing Group and Springer have been especially helpful in offering discounted e-licensing agreements to SCELC members and affiliates.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nWhat else does this partnership accomplish?\u00a0\u00a0 For hospital libraries, it provides better pricing, cooperation with other libraries, a centralized negotiator of contracts, and solutions for libraries of all sizes and budgets.\u00a0 For the PSRML, it helps NN\/LM provide added value to hospital libraries by partnering with someone who understands the library community, offers broad access to vendors, provides negotiating expertise, and customizes vendor offers for hospital libraries.\u00a0 For SCELC, the partnership provides an opportunity for increased income and increased leveraging power with vendors.\u00a0\u00a0 And for vendors, it provides greater opportunities for sales, better connections to a large customer base, and centralizes negotiations and payments.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, this partnership is a win-win for everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Another e-licensing survey will be coming soon to PSR member libraries.\u00a0 Your feedback is critical for the future direction and success of this PSRML-SCELC partnership.<\/p>\n<p>You can learn more about SCELC from their website (<a href=\"http:\/\/scelc.org\">http:\/\/scelc.org<\/a>).\u00a0 If you need more information about how your PSR library can become a SCELC affiliate, you can contact Julie Kwan (jkkwan@library.ucla.edu) for details.<\/p>\n<p><em>Posted 1\/28\/10<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Posted by Evonda Copeland, Supervisor of Library Services, Scottsdale Healthcare, Scottsdale, AZ With &#8220;Stretching Those Resource Dollars: Lessons Learned on Building and Managing a Hospital Library Consortium for Cooperative E-Licensing&#8221;
