He was dedicated to instruction and services for students and faculty, especially those in nursing and who were members of under represented minorities and lifestyles. Prior to that, Locke was the Engineering Librarian at the University of California, Irvine.<\/p>\n<p>Locke\u2019s numerous professional contributions include serving as the ACRL Councilor from 2007 until June 2010, and serving on the New England Journal of Medicine Library Board from 2007 until 2009.\u00a0 He also mentored many San Jose State University library school students with internships at the Gleeson Library\/Geschke Center.<br \/>\n\u00a0<!--more--><br \/>\nLocke was honored as the California Academic &amp; Research Libraries (CARL) Outstanding Member of the Year in 2008; and, in addition to his numerous activities, established the CARL\/ACRL Conference Scholarship Award, which enabled library school students to attend the ACRL Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Locke will be missed as a valued friend and colleague, and for his high level of enthusiasm and upbeat spirit.
