{"id":3867,"date":"2011-07-14T08:54:05","date_gmt":"2011-07-14T15:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=3867"},"modified":"2011-07-13T08:54:35","modified_gmt":"2011-07-13T15:54:35","slug":"pecha-kucha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=3867","title":{"rendered":"Pecha Kucha"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is <a href=\"http:\/\/pecha-kucha.org\/\">Pecha Kucha <\/a>(pronounced peh-chak-cha), and what can it do for you?<\/p>\n<p>Pecha Kucha is a creative and fun way to present and view information.\u00a0 The Pecha Kucha format is a simple 20\/20; 20 slides of 20 seconds each.\u00a0 That\u2019s a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.\u00a0 If you are a bit bored with PowerPoint, why not shake things up a bit and try Pecha Kucha for your next presentation or meeting?\u00a0 You may be surprised at how challenging it is to pare down you subject and keep yourself on track with your ever-moving slide presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is Pecha Kucha a fun way to present and view information, but it\u2019s a social movement too.\u00a0 The format was created in 2003 in Tokyo as an event for young designers to meet, network and show their work in public.\u00a0 Now many cities around the world host \u201cPechaKucha Nights\u201d with varying themes and presenters \u2013 but all with the same 20\/20 format.\u00a0 The last time I checked, there were 418 cities hosting a Pecha Kucha event.<\/p>\n<p>The format tends toward the informal and presenters are encouraged to relax and simplify their presentations, perhaps only presenting one to two main points.\u00a0 These are not in-depth or comprehensive treatments of a subject \u2013 but a way for people to briefly showcase their talent, passions, or travel.\u00a0 The presentations are brief, focused, and one can see the passions of up to a dozen people in one session.
