Wickline, MLIS, M.Ed., MAWickline@library.ucsd.edu<br \/>\nInstruction and Outreach Librarian, UC San Diego Biomedical Library<\/p>\n<p>INTRODUCTION<br \/>\nLibrarian activities with nurses are based on a research-based needs assessment of nurses\u2019 barriers to evidence-based practice. The poster will describe a few interventions that followed including the librarian\u2019s outreach to the Education, Development, and Research (EDR) department; active participation in the nursing, shared-governance Research Council from its inception; and the use of journal clubs to facilitate reading and understanding the evidence.<\/p>\n<p>INTERVENTIONS (Structures &amp; Process)<br \/>\nAmong the interventions have been:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using the language of Magnet to insinuate yourself into nurses\u2019 EBP work<\/li>\n<li>Searching the Nursing Literature Effectively workshops to address converting a clinical question into a research format and in that context, using the tools of databases to improve results retrieved<\/li>\n<li>Supporting journal clubs to assist with reading research critically<\/\n\n<li>\n<li>Providing writing support to assist nurses in getting their research published.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>\nOUTCOMES<br \/>\nOur medical center was recently awarded Magnet accreditation on December 12, 2011, and in that initial accreditation, our medical center was named an exemplar (a model for other Magnet Hospitals) in the \u201cNK4\u201d New Knowledge category.<\/p>\n<p>Download and view the full-size PDF of Mary A.
