Many connection problems ensued; the meeting resumed at 2:45 PM.<\/p>\n<p>Approval of Minutes, 4\/8\/11: Correction &#8211; under CE Program \u2013 paid registrants, 8 should be Burbank.\u00a0 Phoenix listed twice.\u00a0 Birr will send correction to Crum.\u00a0 Zeblisky moved to approve.\u00a0 Carlson seconded.\u00a0 None opposed.\u00a0 Motion carried.<\/p>\n<p>Approval of Minutes, 9\/30\/11: Ogawa moved to approve.\u00a0 Chatfield seconded.\u00a0 None opposed.\u00a0 Motion carried.<\/p>\n<h3>Announcements<\/h3>\n<p>No announcements.<\/p>\n<h3>President\u2019s Update (Rebecca Birr)<\/h3>\n<h4>Award Presentations<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Student Scholarship: Jessica Shultz awarded $1000.\u00a0 In MLIS program at SJSU and works part-time at a health sciences library.\u00a0 Birr and the group congratulated Jessica, and Emily Brennan presented the check.<\/li>\n<li>MLGSCA Louise Darling Achievement Award: Birr read nomination letter for this year\u2019s winner [ask Becky to provide text of letter for minutes], Julie Kwan, UCLA.\u00a0 Alan Carr presented a plaque, check, and bouquet of flowers to Kwan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Symposium<\/h4>\n<p>MLGSCA symposium, Information Treasure Hunt: Supporting Evidence-Based Practice at Your Institution was held on March 2 with presenter Connie Schardt.\u00a0 Birr indicated MLGSCA\u2019s gratitude for the RML\u2019s sponsorship of the event and thanked the program planning committee, chaired by Lisa Marks.\u00a0 Marks said that 54 people attended, and the evaluations were very positive.<\/p>\n<h4>Joint Meeting 2013<\/h4>\n<p>The 2013 Joint Meeting is tentatively set for the University of California \u2013 San Diego for the end of July.\u00a0 Chairs for the Joint Meeting are Robert Johnson, Danielle Linden, and Nita Mailander.\u00a0 Birr asked anyone who is interested in volunteering for one of the planning committees to contact the chairs.\u00a0 Announcements will be coming soon on the MLGSCA blog and listserv.<\/p>\n<h4>Quad Meeting 2014<\/h4>\n<p>We were approached by South Central and Midcontinental chapters to do a joint meeting with them.\u00a0 We invited NCNMLG to join the conversation.\u00a0 Both advisory councils (MLGSCA and NCNMLG) think this quad meeting would be a great opportunity.\u00a0 The meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 2014 in Denver.\u00a0 More details to come.\u00a0 Birr asked anyone interested in volunteering to help with the meeting to contact her.<\/p>\n<h3>Officer, Committee &amp; Other Reports<\/h3>\n<h4>Treasurer (Elisa Cortez)<\/h4>\n<p>Birr reported that the Treasurer\u2019s Report was distributed on the listserv.\u00a0 No questions were asked.<\/p>\n<h4>MLA Chapter Council Rep (Andrea Lynch)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Awards (Laura Stubblefield)<\/h4>\n<p>Stubblefield congratulated the MLGSCA awardees and reported that nominations are due July 1 for the the MLGSCA Outstanding Health Sciences Library Paraprofessional Award.\u00a0 She thanked her committee members, Dede Leshy, Steve Clancy, Carol Attwood, Lisa Marks, Yamila El-Khayat, Russell Smith, and Billie White, for their great work this year.<\/p>\n<h4>Blog (Amy Chatfield)<\/h4>\n<p>No report<\/p>\n<h4>CE\/Program (Emily Brennan)<\/h4>\n<p>Brennan reported that there were 40 total registrants for the MLA Webcast: 33 MLGSCA members, 5 non-members, and 2 students.<\/p>\n<h4>Connections (Andrea Harrow)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Electronic Information Resources (EIRC) (Paul Bielman)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Finance (Ellen Aaronson &amp; Deborah Klein)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Government Relations\/By-Laws (Mary White)<\/h4>\n<p>White reported that AC did a significant review of the MLGSCA bylaws, and the revised version has been reviewed and approved by MLA.\u00a0 The main changes are: wording was updated, electronic voting added, and references to coupon manager program deleted.\u00a0 Also, the description of the Archivist role will be removed from the Bylaws and added to the Advisory Committee Manual, where it can be updated by the AC rather than the entire chapter. Emily Brennan moved to approve bylaws.\u00a0 Cinda McClain seconded.\u00a0 None opposed.\u00a0 Motion carried. Birr thanked White for her dedication to this project.<\/p>\n<h4>Membership (Janene Wandersee)<\/h4>\n<p>As of 4\/6, we had 174 members.\u00a0 A few more registered since then.<\/p>\n<h4>Nominating (Eileen Wakiji)<\/h4>\n<p>Wakiji reported the results of the recent MLGSCA election: Mary White is president-elect.\u00a0 April Agui\u00f1aga is secretary. Alan Carr is Chapter Council Representative.\u00a0 Kathleen Carlson is Chapter Council Alternate.\u00a0 Kay Deeney and Janet Crum will join the Nominating Committee.\u00a0 Judy Consales is the MLGSCA candidate for the MLA Nominating Committee.\u00a0 Birr congratulated the candidates.<\/p>\n<h4>Professional Issues (Lisa Marks)<\/h4>\n<p>Marks thanked Crum for mentoring a member relocating from the UK to Southern California.\u00a0 She thanked Wandersee for sending a list of people who are interested in mentoring or being mentored.<\/p>\n<h4>Public Relations (Robert Johnson)<\/h4>\n<p>Johnson reported that his co-volunteers left the group after the last meeting, so there has been no progress on finding out what other chapters do for PR.\u00a0 He hasn\u2019t recruited any new vendors to advertise on the blog.\u00a0 Vendors are more interested in having one on one conversations with us, e.g. at conferences.\u00a0 Vendors have national and local budgets, so we wouldn\u2019t be competing with MLA for vendors.<\/p>\n<h4>Research (Zoe Pettway Unno)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Web (Jin Wu\/Andrea Lynch)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>Archivist (Birr for Marsha Kmec)<\/h4>\n<p>Marsha has a UCLA student scanning materials for the archives.<\/p>\n<h4>NN\/LM PSR Rep (Irene Lovas)<\/h4>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h3>Internal Auditor (Alan Carr)<\/h3>\n<p>No report.<\/p>\n<h4>MLA Credentialing Committee Liaison \u2013 AHIP (Kathy Zeblisky)<\/h4>\n<p>Zeblisky reported that the Credentialing Committee is considering a motion to remove the requirement for AHIP candidates to be working in the health sciences, because some members, due to the economy, may not be working in the field currently.\u00a0 She will know more after MLA.<\/p>\n<h3>New Business<\/h3>\n<p>Birr thanked the site coordinators for hosting the MLA webcast.<\/p>\n<h3>Adjournment<\/h3>\n<p>Nita Mailander moved to adjourn, seconded by Molly Harrington.\u00a0 The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 PM.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully submitted,<\/p>\n<p>Janet Crum<\/p>\n<p>MLGSCA Secretary<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: it looks like IE users are having trouble downloading the minutes from WordPress, so I&#8217;m going to paste them into this post. \u00a0Sorry for the hassle, IE users.
