<\/a>Bio: <\/strong>Lisa Federer is Research Informationist at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library.\u00a0 In addition to serving as liaison librarian to Public Health, Psychology, and several departments within Medicine, she provides specialized support to researchers, including data management instruction and consultations, expert searching, and assistance with grant funder policies.\u00a0 She has been an active member of MLGSCA and MLA since joining as a student in UCLA\u2019s Department of Information Studies, where she received her MLIS in 2011.\u00a0 Her activities with MLA and MLGSCA include:\u00a0 Plenary Speaker Committee, chair, MLGSCA\/NCNMLG Joint Meeting 2013 Planning Committee, July 2012 \u2013 present, MLGSCA Blog Committee, chair, July 2012 \u2013 present, MLGSCA Web Committee, member, August 2010 \u2013 June 2012, MLA Futures Task Force, December 2012 \u2013 present, MLA Scholarship Jury, January 2012 \u2013 present, MLA Annual Meeting Blog Correspondent, May 2012, and MLA Symposium Planning Committee member, July 2011 \u2013 May 2012<\/p>\nStatement of Aims:<\/strong> I believe that it is vitally important for librarians to adapt and grow to ensure that we remain a vital part of the hospitals, academic medical centers, and other institutions in which we serve a key role.\u00a0 If elected, I would bring this same spirit of innovation and transformation to my role as MLGSCA President-Elect.\u00a0 As a major proponent of continuing education, I would work to design events that would help librarians build on the skills they already possess and explore new ways to serve their patrons.\u00a0 I am also interested in fostering community both within our region and with the larger community of the Medical Library Association.\u00a0 As I feel communication is vital to our organization, I would work closely with MLGSCA committees to leverage our website, social media, and blog to create opportunities for members to network and learn more about our organization and medical librarianship in general.<\/p>\n Statement of Aims:<\/strong> I am honored to be considered for the President-Elect officer position for the MLGSCA.\u00a0 Our group has provided me with excellent networking opportunities, continuing education, and professional resources. I feel extremely connected to the organization and have been grateful for its vision and goals. It has helped me immeasurably in the profession of medical librarianship and I want to be able to give back by ensuring that all members of MLGSCA reap the intended benefits. We are all aware of the current economic challenges, budget reductions, and cutbacks and the impact it has made on many of our friends and members. I believe MLGSCA can reach out and be the voice of librarian advocacy in the region and assist our members with the tools they need to remain relevant and demonstrate value to their employers. Librarianship has become more relevant than ever before with the exponential growth of new technologies and I believe MLGSCA has been and will continue to be a network of knowledge and resources for its members by providing strong educational programming. This will enable us to not only remain pertinent and viable but will also empower each of us to be innovative, efficient, and prominent leaders in our organizations. Thank you for considering me for President-Elect and I look forward to the possibility of leading the organization over the next few years.<\/p>\n Ms. Hobbs received a B.S from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MBA from Brenau University, and an M.L.I.S from Clark Atlanta University.\u00a0\u00a0 She is credentialed as a Senior Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. She is a member of the MLA (Medical Library Association) as well as MLGSCA (Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona).<\/p>\n Ms. Hobbs is an active mentor with MLA and regularly hosts internships for students enrolled in the UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) Graduate School of Education and Information Studies Internship Program, and the San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science Internship Program. Ms. Hobbs is a reviewer of Doody\u2019s Book Reviews which provides expert reviews on newly published biomedical information.\u00a0 Jan serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Medical Library Association.<\/p>\nBryan Nugent<\/h3>\n
<\/a>Bio:<\/strong> I currently work as a medical librarian for Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in \u201cbut it\u2019s a dry heat\u201d, 250+ days of sunshine per year, Phoenix, Arizona. I have worked for the Banner Health system for 5 1\/2 years and I am so thrilled that I was introduced to this wonderful niche of librarianship. I graduated with my MSLIS in 2007 from Drexel University. Previous to my career in medical librarianship, I worked in a variety of sales and business capacities for over 10 years. I also had the opportunity to co-found a business, 360 Education Solutions, LLC back in 2006. I have been a member of MLGSCA since 2008 and have served on committees for the 2010 (registration) and 2013 (exhibitor\/vendor relations) MLGSCA\/NCNMLG Joint Meetings. Locally, I have been a member of CABL since 2008 and served as President-Elect, President, and Past President from 2010-2012. I have also been a member of MLA since 2008 and was an Official MLA Blogger for the Annual Meeting in Chicago in 2008. Janet Hobbs<\/h3>\n
<\/a>Janet is the Manager of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Library.\u00a0 She provides leadership for the direction, policy formulation, and coordination of all Library activities. The Medical Library supports the clinical, academic and research needs of a major academic medical center.<\/p>\nBelen Thornfield<\/h3>\n
<\/a>I am greatly interested in running for Treasurer of the Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona. My passion and commitment to medical information and knowledge stem from my years at the University of California Irvine, Science Library.\u00a0\u00a0 Through my dedication as a student employee I grew to respect and appreciate this field. My hard work paid off after 4 years of student work and 7 years thereafter of being a library assistant in molding me into the Librarian I am today. After graduating from the MLIS program at UCLA I obtained my first librarian career position at West Coast University Orange County. Through this position I have had the privilege of joining MLGSCA and volunteering as the Chair Registrar for the 2013 Joint Meeting Committee. If given this opportunity it would be an honor and privilege to serve MLGSCA another two years in service as their Treasurer. Frances Chu<\/h3>\n
<\/a>Frances Chu MSN, MLIS is the Associate Director of References & Outreach from Harriet K & Philip Pumerantz Library of Western University Health Sciences.\u00a0 She has worked as a librarian with a focus on health information and information architecture since 2006. Prior to working at Pumerantz Library, she worked in various corporate libraries.\u00a0 Additionally, prior to being a librarian, she worked as a registered nurse in medical-surgical units and cardiac\/telemetry units in hospitals and as a family nurse practitioner at a clinic.\u00a0 She has belonged to MLGSCA for several years and has recently gotten involved in the blog committee and helped in developing criteria to reviewing poster for MLGSCA Symposium.\u00a0 She continues to look for way to be involved in MLGSCA.<\/p>\nNorma Layton<\/h3>\n
<\/a>Norma has been a Library Assistant and Continuing Medical Education Assistant at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA for 5 years. She received her Masters of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI.\u00a0 She is the recipient of the MLGSCA Health Sciences Library Paraprofessional of the Year Award for 2012.\u00a0 She is active on the Health Sciences Library Committee as well as the Continuing Medical Education Committee.\u00a0 She is often referred to as the “Tech Guru” of the department.\u00a0 She teaches an introduction to PubMed for a former professor for the on-line course sessions.\u00a0 She is interested in the role that technology plays in information and Health Information Literacy.\u00a0 She also holds a part-time position at a public library.\u00a0 She enjoys traveling, exploring new techie toys, researching about wolves, and spending time with her fianc\u00e9, step daughter, cat and Shibu Inu.<\/p>\nMLGSCA Nominating Committee<\/h2>\n
Adele Dobry<\/h3>\n
<\/a>I am honored to have been nominated to run for membership in the MLGSCA Nominating Committee.\u00a0\u00a0 Currently, I am a Bylaws Committee member of the Medial Library Association (MLA) Nursing and Allied Health Resources Section (NAHRS) and have served on the MLA Rittenhouse Award Jury.\u00a0 I would like to become more involved in a regional professional organization such as MLGSCA.\u00a0 When I first started as a Health and Life Sciences Librarian at the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library at UCLA, I fully benefitted from the educational and networking opportunities provided by MLGSCA.\u00a0 I would like to give back and support the organization that has helped support me over the years!\u00a0 Currently, I work as a Nursing Informationist at the Louise M. <\/a>As Director of Library Services at Grand Canyon University, I have had the privilege to influence a lot of change and expansion to support our students, including a new library that is beginning construction this year.\u00a0 GCU has a nursing school, along with many health sciences degrees and other undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.\u00a0 The library supports 40,000 online students and a growing student population of 6,000 students in Phoenix, Arizona.\u00a0 I have over 15 years of medical library experience and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois.\u00a0 I have served as President and Treasurer of the Central Arizona Biomedical Libraries and served on the MLGSCA CE Committee.\u00a0 I am currently one of the Tri-Chairs for the upcoming 2013 Joint Annual Meeting of MLGSCA & NCNMLG to be held at the University of California, San Diego on July 24-26th.\u00a0 I look forward to seeing you all this summer for a great joint annual meeting!<\/p>\nZoe Pettway Unno<\/h3>\n
