{"id":93,"date":"2009-07-28T16:33:27","date_gmt":"2009-07-28T21:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=93"},"modified":"2009-09-14T18:13:55","modified_gmt":"2009-09-14T23:13:55","slug":"spring-2009-ebm-ce-taught-by-one-of-our-own","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=93","title":{"rendered":"Spring 2009 EBM CE Taught By One of Our Own!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>By Lisa Marks<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stephen Clancy, Reference Librarian at UC Irvine Science Library and MLGSCA member, created and taught the Spring CE course titled: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Point of Care EBM: Bedside Information Tools for Healthcare Practitioners<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The course was attended by 14 people in Arizona at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona Health Science Library on April 13, 2009.\u00c2\u00a0 In California, 32 people took the class at California State University, Northridge, Oviatt Library on April 23, 2009.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The course presented evidence-based online resources which synthesize medical information for use by health care professionals at the point-of-care. Through demonstration, hands-on group work, and patient-care scenarios, attendees learned to use and evaluate these resources.<\/p>\n<p>Resources included: BMJ Point of Care, eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base, Institutional Edition, Facts &amp; Comparisons, MD Consult\/FirstConsult,\u00c2\u00a0 Micromedex\/Micromedex Point of Care Interface, NeoFax, Stat!Ref, and UpToDate.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen also used a few \u00e2\u20ac\u0153case presentations\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to demonstrate what kind of information healthcare practitioners might be looking for.\u00c2\u00a0 This allowed Stephen to demonstrate search capabilities, good and bad, for each resource.<\/p>\n<p><em>Posted\u00c2\u00a008\/05\/09<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lisa Marks Stephen Clancy, Reference Librarian at UC Irvine Science Library and MLGSCA member, created and taught the Spring CE course titled: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Point of Care EBM: Bedside Information Tools for Healthcare Practitioners\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.
