{"id":5373,"date":"2014-04-23T12:19:28","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T19:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=5373"},"modified":"2014-04-23T12:19:28","modified_gmt":"2014-04-23T19:19:28","slug":"mlgsca-paraprofessional-scholarship-award-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/?p=5373","title":{"rendered":"MLGSCA Paraprofessional Scholarship Award winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to the winners of the MLGSCA Paraprofessional Scholarship Award!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Juan-Jamie.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Juan-Jamie1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5377\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Juan-Jamie\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Juan-Jamie1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>Juan Jamie<\/strong> (Paraprofessional Student) expects to complete his MLIS degree in June 2016 at UCLA.\u00a0 He stated that \u201cfrom a young age, libraries have always been a large part of my life, and as a library assistant at the (UCLA) Biomedical Library for the past 15 years, they continue t<em>o<\/em> shape my beliefs in the impact and differences these institutions can make.\u201d With his Master\u2019s degree, he hopes to better serve the public, and provide information that improves the decision-making process within medicine. \u00a0\u00a0 His passion is to \u201cimprove the use of information within the health sciences is driven by my desire to explore and implement better ways for the health and sciences industry to acquire, disseminate and make readily available the information needed to assist patients and consumers beyond academia\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 He has a strong interest in social media (Facebook, Twitter and instant messaging) and how the library can incorporate it as a tool to connect to a new generation of customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sandra-Chase1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5378\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Sandra-Chase\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sandra-Chase1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sandra-Chase1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.mlgsca.mlanet.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sandra-Chase1.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 135px) 100vw, 135px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sandra Chase<\/strong> plans to complete her MLIS degree Dec 2015 from SJSU.\u00a0 She is thrilled to begin a career as a medical librarian.\u00a0 For the past 7 years, Sandra has worked as a pathology laboratory assistant for Sharp Healthcare and is excited at the chance to use her existing healthcare career experience in her chosen field of librarianship.\u00a0 Sandra said that she found her niche after reading one of her old favorite books \u201cA Tree Grows in Brooklyn\u201d (about a young girl who loves the New York\u00a0 Public Library and wants to be a librarian).\u00a0 She said \u201cLibrarians get to use their skills to help people, they sometimes get to teach people how to use the library&#8217;s many resources, and then they get to go home and have dinner with their families!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Sandra loves providing both efficient and friendly service as well as\u00a0helping people.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0She cannot wait to begin the next chapter of career life in the library!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to the winners of the MLGSCA Paraprofessional Scholarship Award!
