MLA Presentation: Complying with the NIH Public Access Policy

Posted on September 28, 2009 by Amy Chatfield | No Comments

The MLA (Medical Library Association) Ad Hoc Committee for Advocating Scholarly Communication has developed a PowerPoint presentation (also available as a PDF document) to help librarians learn about and aid their institutions in complying with the NIH (National Institutes of Health) Public Access Policy.

The presentation is extensive, clearly written, and well-organized, and includes links to content that can be difficult to find when searching NIH-produced websites. The final sections of the presentation provide concrete ideas and examples of how librarians or libraries can assist with compliance. The broad, thorough scope means that this presentation is appropriate for both experienced librarians who need to learn about changes made to the Policy through August 2009, as well as librarians learning about the Policy for the first time. You can find this presentation and other scholarly communications reference materials on the MLA Resources: Scholarly Communication Issues website.

If you are seeking news and information about other aspects of scholarly communication, such as copyright and fair use, open access, or eresources licensing, MLA’s Scholarly Communication initiative has made a variety of material available online. These position statements, presentations, reports, and resources can be found on the Scholarly Communications Resources web page.
