This librarian is the primary liaison to the Keck School of Medicine and is closely involved in the curriculum of medical students. Do you know a paraprofessional who deserves to be recognized for the great work she or he does in a medical library? Nominate her or him for the MLGSCA Paraprofessional of the Year Award by July 1!

Purpose
The purpose of the Outstanding Health Sciences Library Paraprofessional of the Year Award is to honor an outstanding library paraprofessional in a health sciences library and to recognize the critical role and important contributions library paraprofessionals make to the development and evolution of modern health sciences libraries and librarianship.

Considerations/criteria for nominating a paraprofessional for this award include, but are not limited to, a paraprofessional that:

Nominations can be made by any MLGSCA member and sent to the Awards Committee chair. Please use the available formNomination deadline is July 1st.

Frequency and Number of Awards
The Outstanding Health Sciences Library Paraprofessional of the Year Award is given annually to one outstanding paraprofessional in a health sciences library.  If there are no suitable candidates nominated, the award is not given. The award is usually presented by the MLGSCA President during the Fall Meeting.

Senior Librarian – Bastyr University-California

Schedule: TBD – 40 hours per week; anticipated start date: by Sept 1, 2015

Responsibilities:  Bastyr University, a fully accredited institution offering BS, MS and clinical doctorate degrees in the fields of natural health arts and sciences, is looking for a senior medical librarian to manage our satellite campus library in San Diego, CA. Under distance supervision of the Director of Library Services, based in Kenmore, WA, the senior librarian will perform basic library operations, plan and teach information literacy sessions, assist students and faculty with research questions, maintain digital resources, plan for and promote the library, and acquire and process instructional materials.

Qualifications:  An MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program is required; a BS degree is highly desirable.  At least 4 years’ experience in an academic setting as a professional librarian, at least two years’ experience with medical information resources, and familiarity with the systems and tools necessary for basic (copy) cataloging, or equivalents. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, medical and other databases, and a variety of additional digital resources.  Experience with various classroom instructional methods and assessment. Excellent collaborative, customer service and organizational skills.  Knowledge of/interest in natural health (complementary and alternative medicine).
